With the weatherman’s promise of a sunny Saturday, I set off, a couple of weeks ago, for one of my favourite coastal towns on the Yorkshire coast, Saltburn.
Saltburn is one of those places that boasts a vast expanse of sand which stretches right up to Marske and Redcar, where the first signs of the industrial north east begin to encroach on the horizon. Popular activities at the coast here include surfing, kayaking, and, of course, the local riding school’s regular beach ride. I was hoping to get another opportunity to photograph the ride (see other images in the ‘Yorkshire Coast’ section in the Gallery), and I was not disappointed. The combination of beautiful horses and ponies stretching out along the surf’s edge is too good to miss.
The weather didn’t turn out to be as good as forecast, but I managed to get a few shots which, I think, reflect something of the space and wildness of the beach here. The image where the dogs are also seen frolicking in the surf adds a further element of interest.
